Budget Status

  • Initial Budget (2016): KES 50 Million
  • Additional Allocations (2017/2018): KES 61 Million
  • Further Allocation (2018/2019): KES 1.1 Billion
  • Audit Findings: Stalled project, unclear funding contributions from national and county governments

What's bad

  • Incomplete and stalled project, 5+ years later
  • Numerous budget allocations
  • Rusting structures visible through cracks
  • Obscurity by county to our efforts to inspect the project

In detail:

Mombasa County has promised to deliver this Sh1.7 billion stadium with a 12,500 capacity within the stadium and 4,000 at the arena, 3,000 at the conventional hall. Construction started on 1st October 2019.

The promised “world-class” Mombasa County Stadium has become a symbol of stalled progress. Despite numerous budget allocations, the stadium remains incomplete, with rusting structures visible through cracks in the front gate.

Efforts to access the site for inspection were blocked, adding to the opacity of the project.

Questions linger about the budgetary inconsistencies and repeated deadlines—initially December 2020, later pushed to June 2021. With little to show for the billions allocated, citizens are demanding an independent audit and clarity on funding contributions from both county and national governments.
